It's an RFID chip and is "excited" by the antenna around the ignition switch. Shaking the key or changing the remote fob's battery will not fix any problem with the immobilizer. Just look at the pictures above - there are no batteries for the immobilizer chip. The chip in the transmitter needs to be within like 2 inches (maybe less) of the ignition switch or the immobilizer stays active. Unless you tape that to the steering column, you are going to have to get it back together with the metal part of the key or it won't be close enough. You can buy a keyfob that already has the RFID chip. Typically the reason you'd buy one without a chip is to swap the chip from your existing fob to avoid the 0 programming fee. But if you're going to be paying that anyway, you can buy a fob with the chip already in it.
